Our Story
My name is Patrick Mosca. I got my first drum set when I turned 10 years old in 1997. Since then, playing music has always been a huge passion of mine. I had played acoustic drums for over 18 years in multiple bands before retiring the stage life and switching to an electric set to play at home. After about 5 years of electric I started having components fail on my set and I decided to go back to an acoustic set. While doing some research in finding my new drum set, I stumbled upon stave style drums. I would have never guessed that moment would change my life.
I began a deep dive into stave drums and the building process for them. I was fascinated by not only the drums themselves, but the creativity people had for the jigs to make them.
As a professional carpenter, specializing in high-end cabinetry, I knew I could learn how to create a jig for building these drums and create a high-quality product with high quality finishes. So without hesitation I decided to design and build my own jig for creating any drum from a 10" tom to a 24" x 20" bass drum. With a good amount of math, some trial and error I had made a jig that was able to cut both the outer and inner surfaces and created my first snare drum out of ambrosia maple (Project 0).
From that moment I was hooked, I had obtained a passion even greater than my passion for drumming, creating drums for others to admire and enjoy! I decided to start the brand Kapiem Drums, which is a sound out of my wife and my initials "K-P-M". With so many 3-letter brands out there I wanted to be different while still having it be a family name.
